da-kuk With the rise and subsequent fall of Bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) in recent months, the public miners have been incredibly volatile over the same timeframe. Data by YCharts After having more than doubled from a share price near $3 in early June up to over $8 in mid-July and then falling back below $5 more recently, it has been a wild ride in Iris Energy ( NASDAQ: IREN ) shares to say the least. Given the company's approach to treasury management, Iris' strategy of selling all production worked very well in July as the company was able to sell 423 BTC at an average rate of just under $30k. With Bitcoin now ranging between $26k and $28k, those sales look great with the benefit of hindsight. However, we now have roughly seven months until the next Bitcoin halving event and scaling efforts by the company appear to be shifting more toward artificial intelligence than Bitcoin mining. As we don't yet have updated financials from the company since my last article covering I

Stocks pop after GDP growth revised lower: Stock market news today - Yahoo Finance

Image
Stocks closed out a fourth-straight day of gains on Wednesday after revised GDP data showed the US economy grew slower in the last quarter than previously estimated. The S&P 500 ( ^GSPC ) rose about 0.4% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average ( ^DJI ) popped 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite ( ^IXIC ) increased 0.5%. The benchmarks erased earlier small losses after a fresh reading on US GDP showed the economy grew 2.1% in the second quarter, compared with a previous official estimate of 2.4%. Meanwhile, private-sector jobs in August as reported by ADP came in weaker than expected. The data comes amid hopes for a "soft landing" for the economy and plays into assessments of whether the Federal Reserve is done hiking interest rates and potentially denting the economy. Signs of a slowdown in the labor market helped lift the major US gauges to gains on Tuesday. Both releases will set the stage for Thursday's PCE inflation report and Friday's August jobs report, see

Nvidia Remains The Best Stock In The Market Now (NASDAQ:NVDA) - Seeking Alpha

Yoshiyoshi Hirokawa I have witnessed a lot of earnings reports during my 24 years as a professional money manager. The vast majority of them have come within a few cents one way or another when compared to the analyst’s consensus expectations. Every quarter, there are always the major whiffs and the proverbial “knock the ball out of the park” earnings results. On October 3, 1951, a third baseman for the New York Giants named Bobby Thompson hit the famous “shot heard around the world” homerun to defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers at the Polo Grounds in New York City. The New York Giants have since moved to the Bay Area where another team resides. It is a team that is managed by Jensen Huang, and they delivered the “earnings report heard around the world” this past week. The company makes expensive graphic chips made for video gamers but is now also the leader in the superfast and even more expensive chips that run “AI” applications. Just how unbelievable was this past week’s Nvidia Cor

The Fed may have destroyed the housing market by crushing both supply and demand, top economist Mohamed El-Erian says - Yahoo Finance

Image
Robert Galbraith/ Reuters The Fed may have broken the US housing market, according to top economist Mohamed El-Erian. That's because interest rate hikes have helped drive up mortgage rates, weighing on both supply and demand. The US housing market may be broken, and the Federal Reserve's aggressive interest rate hiking cycle over the past year could be to blame, according to top economist Mohamed El-Erian. "There's a real issue as to whether we've broken the housing market," the Allianz chief economic advisor said in an interview with CNBC on Monday, pointing to high mortgage rates weighing on the market. The average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage notched a fresh 23-year-high last week, clocking in at 7.48%, according to Mortgage News Daily . High rates have frozen the housing market over the past year by crimping both supply and demand. Many prospective buyers are priced out of the market due to higher costs of borrowing. Meanwhile, ex

Huge gov't funding over next 6 weeks & yield curve inversion signal trouble ahead, especially for long duration assets (TradingView.com) Macro Perspective Market conditions are behaving in very similar ways to the periods approaching the tops of 2000 and 2007. Nvidia's ( NVDA ) recent performance, up to and after a truly impressive quarterly report, brings back memories of the many tech bubbles we have studied and several that we have experienced. With rates at relatively high levels, but arguably well below sustainable levels considering the current makeup of inflationary expectations. 6 ways to get a lower mortgage rate in today's market - CBS News

With mortgage rates currently around 7%, buyers should explore all potential ways to secure a lower rate. Getty Images/iStockphoto While it was only a few years ago, mortgage interest rates during the height of the pandemic hovered around 2% to 3%, giving buyers a historic opportunity to borrow at a low rate. But as the pandemic subsided and inflation rose , interest rates rose alongside it. This reached a decades-long high earlier this month, with the average mortgage interest rate for a 30-year loan at 7.31% — the highest since 2000 . With interest rates that high — and the forecast for relief uncertain — it's easy to see why many prospective buyers have decided to sit on the sidelines. Lower-than-usual housing inventory has also played a significant part. That said, while the record-low rates of 2020 and 2021 are unlikely to return any time soon, there are still some reliable ways buyers can get a lower rate in today's market. Start by exploring rates and terms here
